Marshall H. Ginn, CFRE is a fundraising consultant with more than 25 years of experience working with local, regional and national organizations. Mr. Ginn is the founder and managing director of
Capital Development Strategies LLC.
He is a board member of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy. From 2003 - 2009 he served on the Board of Directors of the Washington, DC Metro Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP/DC), one of the largest chapters in the world. He is active with the Association of Philanthropic Counsel – a nationwide network of consulting firms – and serves as the organization's treasurer. Mr. Ginn is also Chair of the Selection Committee for The Washington Post Awards for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, a project of the Center for Nonprofit Advancement. He is also a former volunteer with the Arlington Community Foundation as a member of the Grants Review Panel.
Mr. Ginn is a regular presenter on fundraising, nonprofit management, board development and stewardship. His audiences include the DC Public Private Partnership Conference, George Mason University, Fundraising Days Washington, the Bridge Conference, Center for Nonprofit Learning and Leadership in Washington, DC and the Episcopal Diocese of Washington’s Stewardship Conference. Mr. Ginn is a graduate of the 2010 AFP Faculty Training Academy.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Ginn was employed by The Sheridan Group, and as an on-site consultant he helped lead a $12.4 million capital campaign for the YMCA of Greater Richmond. That campaign exceeded its goal by $1 million. Among his specific duties was the coordination of a successful application to the Kresge Foundation. Mr. Ginn also provided on-site counsel for a $6 million capital campaign for Beauvoir – The National Cathedral Elementary School in Washington, DC.
Mr. Ginn's early career included positions at the Levine School of Music, the American Symphony Orchestra League, Georgetown University, the Whitman-Walker Clinic, and Communities In Schools, Inc.
Mr. Ginn was awarded the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential by CFRE International in October 2003 and was recertified in December 2006 and 2009.
When he's not engaged in supporting the nonprofit sector, Mr. Ginn spends his time rooting for the Washington Nationals baseball team.
A native of Richmond, VA, he is a graduate of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and currently resides in Arlington, VA.
